New Vitamin Supplement Set To Help Improve Memory

22 May 2012

Patented vitamin supplement Betrinac launched in the UK today (22 May 2012):

A new food supplement launched in the UK today (22 May 2012) offers people a positive way to help maintain their brain performance and improve memory.

Betrinac is a patented high strength combination of vitamins B12, B6, folic acid and N-acetylcysteine (NAC), a powerful anti oxidant. Until now, this combination has only been available on prescription in America, where it is successfully used to treat memory problems.

The food supplement works by significantly lowering blood levels of homocysteine, a harmful amino acid that naturally rises as we age. High levels of homocysteine are closely linked with Dementia, Alzheimer’s disease and other brain disorders; lowering blood levels of homocysteine can actively slow brain shrinkage and signs of memory decline.

Speaking at the launch of Betrinac Professor Alistair Burns, Professor of Old Age Psychiatry, University of Manchester and Clinical Director, Manchester Academic Health Science Centre (MAHSC) said: “The number of people with Dementia and Alzheimer’s in the UK is a challenge to Health and Social Care. 800,000 people live with dementia in the UK and the National Dementia Strategy aims to improve the quality of life with people with dementia and to allow them to live well with the condition.”

Dr Andrew McCaddon, a GP from Wrexham and a Director of Cobalz Ltd, the company that developed Betrinac for the UK market, said: “I have used vitamins B6, B12 and folic acid together with N-acetylcysteine in patients with suspected Alzheimer’s and/or memory problems for many years. Until now there has been no single tablet which provides this high dose combination and I have recommended my patients obtain these as separate tablets. The availability of Betrinac as a single daily tablet will remove that inconvenience and high cost for patients.”

“We have been working hard at Cobalz to bring this product to the UK as we believe that it will help a great many people who have memory problems or who are at significant risk of developing dementia particularly if they have a high homocysteine blood level. Once established, such disorders are very difficult to treat and it is far better to try and delay or prevent their onset. Betrinac provides an easy and reliable way for people to pro-actively help themselves.”

Currently there is low awareness in both GPs and the general public of the harmful effects of high levels of homocysteine and what can be done to reduce it. Cobalz intend to help raise awareness in support of current research that concludes that early preventative measures are far more effective than reversal treatments of cognitive disorders such as Dementia and Alzheimer's.

Betrinac will go on sale to the public in June 2012 and will be available online at or by calling 0844 9 400 400 or email: . It costs £16.95 for a month’s supply and includes free postage and packaging in the UK.
